In 1951 the Peak District became the first area in the UK to be designated as a National Park. This was following a decades-long campaign to be granted the ‘freedom to roam’ for the public.
The heritage of this area isn’t solely rooted in this campaign however. The Peak District also boasts world class cultural and industrial heritage sites, from evidence of ancient human settlements to museums cataloguing Victorian industrial innovation.
Putting aside the historical significance of the region, there are also plenty of fantastic walks, cycling trails and pubs to explore.
This mountainous region covers a total of 912mi2 and includes England’s tallest peak and deepest lake. With so much on offer you could return year after year and have a different adventure each time.
Lake Windermere is perhaps the lake most synonymous with the Lake District. This lake is a great base for campervan holidays. The boating activities on offer here are a must for any visitor.
Campervans and Newquay go together like the ocean and waves. The town is a haven for free-living individuals, surfers and VW Camper enthusiasts. In recent years the small fishing village has also been gaining a strong reputation for culinary excellence and aerospace innovation.
Of course, one of the biggest draws to the area is the beaches. Newquay is a great base to explore the 422miles of Cornwall coastline.
If relaxing on the beach isn’t your style then Lands Ends, The Minack Theatre and The Eden Project are all close enough to drive to and offer excellent days out.
Get the most out of your Camper by enjoying some of the scenic driving that this Scottish National Park has to offer. When you are tired of driving though the surrounding mountains, lochs and forests will make for the perfect place to set up camp.
Wherever you camp you will have dozens of great options for hiking, mountain biking & climbing at your fingertips. This destination is also a favourite for artists and photographers searching for a breath-taking view to capture.
