Formula One cars and unique gemstones were among the 1.5 million items sold in our auctions in 2016. We achieved a record number of sales, including 5,758 sofas, 28,873 televisions and 21,994 cars, plus a whole range of other items from iPhones to teapots. We also listed four cars used by the now-defunct Marussia F1 Team for sale, with a 2012 MR01 model that was driven by Timo Glock and Charles Pic which sold and three other vehicles currently under offer.
Managing director Adam Pye said: “This has been a fantastic 12 months for the business. 2016 has been a triumph year, not just for online sales, but we have also extended our client base with many of the best-known high street retailers. We continue to see an increasing demand for the service we offer and the way we conduct our auctions. How people shop is changing and the number of consumers who choose to purchase products through an online auction is growing year on year. John Pye Auctions is in a period of rapid expansion, which is part of our ambitious growth strategy and this will continue into 2017 and beyond.”
We recently celebrated our first full year of trading for our Luxury Assets division at our showroom in Mayfair, London, as well as recently opening Europe’s largest indoor auction hub – the size of four football pitches at 315,000 sq ft – at Port Talbot, in South Wales.
Mr Pye added: “The new South Wales site is a priority as we aim to increase footfall on public viewing dates, raise brand awareness, increase stock levels, open more salerooms and employ additional staff. Overall, we are planning to grow our customer base and registered bidders globally.
Myself and the rest of the dedicated John Pye Auctions team are excited and inspired by what the next phase of the business will bring.”
